January 2007
My baby was born
on January 2nd, 2007.
He was shipped to me from Texas exactly one month later by a very caring horse
carrier.
This is my baby
at seven days old and the first
picture I ever saw of him. I bought him sight unseen.
I said that I wouldn't care if he was the ugliest camel in the world,
but he turned out to be the most handsome. You can see in the picture
he's being bottle fed lambs milk. I do this for him every four hours
around the clock. Weaning a camel can take as long as a year.
February 2007

He came here very late at night, these pictures are the following morning bright
and early.

At first the horses were very scared of him. Every time they
saw him, they would bolt and run as far away as they could.
About a week later though, Bucephalus checked him out
and deemed him okay and cute. Incitatus is still afraid.
Some more friends.
Princess, Faisel, Faisel's Wife, Jezreel & Blondi.
He halter broke very quickly and trained to lead, too. I did
some cushing with him (teaching him to lay on command), but
then decided to hold off on that for awhile.

Modeling an authentic middle eastern camel saddle blanket.
When he's an adult I'll use this blanket as padding for him,
but for now its on to get him used to different experience
and situations. This one turned into a dancing situation.

Two weeks later I was able to take him for walks. Here's his
first walk with special guest, my mother down from Tucson.
Hi, mommy.
Now our first month together is almost over. I can say without
a doubt he is one of the most sweet and beautiful animals that there are.
Here's a few pictures from today (24th). His hump is really getting big now.
Having a camel is very hard work, I spend a large part of my day with him.
He's very demanding, especially with his a round the clock feedings, and even
without that he's so inquisitive and euthastic, he commands your attention.
Much different than owning a horse, or any other animal, I imagine! I admire
the
camel so much, they are a true authentic piece of antiquity. Just looking at
him
I feel like I'm part of human history, part of the past. I look forward to our
days
together.

A little video I put together to showing my camel laying down and rising back up on command.

Grazing, Incitatus, a quick sprint, and a towel rack.

Something on his head.
Shot on October 30th, my baby cushing on vocal command.

He tends to like to lay next to my friend's car. Here he is doing just that while her dog harasses him.
View a video of it.
